The New River Criminal Justice Training Academy will host a Pre-Employment Programs Orientation Meeting on Dec. 1, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. This is a mandatory meeting if you are interested in attending, the Entry Level Law Enforcement, Entry Level Jail, or Entry Level Dispatcher programs. You must call and register for this class by contacting Mrs. Kitty Shelor at 540-674-5846 ext 100. If you cannot make this meeting, call and an alternate date and time can be arranged to meet your schedule. If you are currently unemployed, you may qualify for financial assistance through the Virginia Employment Commission. Veterans can use their VA educational benefits for either the entry level jail or entry level law enforcement programs. The programs at the NRCJTA are approved for Montgomery GI Bill and Post 9/11 Programs. Go to http://www.va.gov and check your eligibility status.NRCJTA is a regional criminal justice academy and as such we do not qualify for student loans or grants through the FASFA program.

The Combined In-Service for December 1-5, 2014 will revert back to the 5-day 8 hour format. Moving forward only basic classes will follow the 4-day 10 hour formats.

Online training enrollments for NRCJTA are open from October 1, 2014 to December 15, 2014.

The New River Criminal Justice Training Academy is one of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s ten regional academies providing a wide variety of criminal justice programs for local law enforcement officers, jail officers, and communications personnel for its member agencies located in the New River Valley. Established in 1975, the NRCJTA mission is to provide "professionalism through training" to the officers and staffs of its member organizations by providing training opportunities based upon mandated skills requirements and specific identified member agency training needs. The primary objective of the Academy is to assist the professional growth and development of Law Enforcement, Jail, and Dispatcher personnel employed by local jurisdictions in its service area. For over 39 years, the New River Criminal Justice Training Academy has been committed to providing the highest achievable quality of program instruction to its member agencies.
